겨울방학을 한 주 연장합니다-3월 7일에 수업 다시 시작/Classes will resume on Mar.7th

 

(1)  겨울방학 1주 연장하게 됨을 알립니다.

(2)    3월 7일에 수업이 다시 시작됩니다.

 

학부모님께, 한국의 코로나바이러스 확진자 숫자가 날로 많아져서 여러 모로 걱정이 많으실 것으로 생각됩니다. 미국질병통제예방센터(CDC)에서 한국에 대한 여행경보를 3단계 경고(Warning)로 격상했고 4단계까지 올라갈 수도 있다는 얘기도 듣습니다. 매사추세츠주는 자진 신고 후 격리된 확진자 1명 이외에 다른 확진자는 아직은 없는 상황이라고 합니다. 또한, 통상 겨울방학은 짧아서 거의 대부분의 가정이 한국이나 해외여행을 하지 않아서 그 부분도 다행이라고 생각됩니다. 그렇다고는 하지만 코로나 바이러스 잠복기인 14일을 지나고 나서 수업을 재개하는 것이  우리 학교의 많은 학생들과 선생님들, 그리고 학부모님들의 안전을 위해 조치가 필요하다는 의견이 있었고, 이에 따라서 학부모회와 리더교사회의에서도 방학을 한 주 연장하고 3월 7일에 개학하는 것으로 결론이 모아졌습니다. 물론, 미국은 비상사태도 아니고 일반 학교들은 아무런 말도 없는데 너무 민감하게 반응한다고 생각하시는 분도 있을 수 있습니다. 하지만, 사람의 고귀한 생명과 연관된 사안이기에 학교에서도 민감하게 대처하여 최소한 방학을 1주 연장하기로 결정했습니다.   그것이 또한 우리 학교 및 우리 학교와 긴밀하게 연결된 교회 및 종교기관과 한인사회에 속한 모든 사람들을 함께 존중하는 것이라고 믿습니다. 이번에 빠지는 수업은 필요하다면 5월 23일(메모리얼데이) 또는 6월 종강을 한 주 늦추는 방법을 고려하고 있습니다. 1) 2월 29일은 겨울방학을 한 주 연장하며 수업은 3월 7일에 다시 시작합니다. 2) 부족한 수업일수는 필요한 경우 5월 23일 또는 여름방학을 한 주 늦춰서 6월 20일에 할 계획입니다. 남일 교장 드림

 

Dear Families,

 

I expect that there are many concerns and worries about the coronavirus. The CDC (Center of Disease and Control) has recently upgraded travel alerts to South Korea to Warning Level 3. It will possibly go up to Warning Level 4 as well.

Within the state of Massachusetts, with the exception of one person who was voluntarily quarantined, there are no confirmed patients at this point.

To add on, because the winter vacation was short, most families did not travel to Korea or go overseas fortunately.

 

Nevertheless, in order to protect the safety of our numerous students, teachers, and parents, it was suggested that classes should resume after the 14-day incubation period of the virus passes. Thus, the PTO and Teacher Leadership Council has reached the conclusion that the winter school break will be extended by one week and classes will resume on March 7th.

Naturally, some may believe that this is an extreme action as the United States is not in an state of emergency and American schools are currently not taking any action.

But, since this is a matter concerning many precious lives, we have decided to respond to the current situation with care and caution. Our decision to extend the school break was made according to the school’s basic principles and we believe that it is the correct decision that respects all those in our community.

 

If needed, we are considering having a make-up day on May 23 (Memorial Day) or ending the school year in June a week later.

 

Summary

1. Winter break will be extended a week and classes will resume on March 7th.

2. If needed, we plan to hold classes on May 23rd or delay the start of summer break by a week and end school on June 20th.
