A Message from the Principal No.3 (Mar.12, 2020)

Adhering to the city of Newton’s decision, the Korean School of New England will be closed starting this week.

The length of closure, make-up methods, and more are still being discussed and will be announced as soon as decisions are made.

Each level courses will be conducted as follows.  Please read the following for more details.

Dear New England Korean School families,

In Newton schools, all after-school activities have been suspended and all weekend activities cancelled, including Korean School, two Chinese Schools, and Israeli school. As a result, our Korean School will go on break starting this week and will not be able to hold classes until further notice. However, judging from the current situation, I expect that things will probably get worse and will not likely improve for the time being.

The Teachers’ Association has discussed what to do if the school break is prolonged. We have decided to hold online classes for Intermediate and Advanced level classes, and send class materials, PPT, etc. through the school’s homepage and email weekly every Saturday morning for the Basics, Beginner, and Sejong Course level classes so that students can study from home.

1. Tomorrow morning (14th) there will be a pilot online class for the Advanced 3 Course level class, Baekdu Class.

2. If the situation improves, we may have make-up classes in May/June.

3. If classes are suspended for a long-term period, we will use Zoom, Youtube, etc. to hold online lectures

4. We plan to hold indirect classes for Basics, Beginner, and Sejong Course level classes through Youtube, the school’s homepage, and/or email.

5. We did consider having online classes for the Basics, Beginner, and Sejong Course level classes, however due to the short attention span of young children, we expected that online classes would be too difficult for the young students. Thus we will provide class materials for families to study together at home, so please check your email Saturday morning.

6. In the case the break is especially prolonged, we are also considering a 1-2 week long Intensive Summer School

* There is also the possibility that this whole semester will be suspended, so we will soon make preparations for that situation and notify you of them

* Our school is making every effort to follow the CDC and Newton City’s guidelines to ensure the safety of our students, families, and teachers

In conclusion, I pray for this situation to quickly wind down and I hope you and your families are all healthy.

We are currently facing a very difficult situation. We ask for parents’ generous understanding and cooperation and as always, thank you for your encouragement and support.
