학부모님께,
세계 여러 나라에서 코로라 19 바이러스 창궐로 많은 사람들이 고통을 당하고 고귀한 생명을 잃고 있습니다.
다행히 메사추세츠주는 확진자가 1명에 그치고 있고 그나마 공항에서 격리되었지만 앞으로도 어떤 경로로 바이러스가 우리에게 위해가 될지 모르는 상황입니다. 더우기 2월 20일 이후부터 한국에서의 확진자 숫자가 무서운 속도로 늘고 있다는 뉴스를 접하며 걱정과 염려가 큽니다.
부탁드리는 말씀은,
이번 방학 기간을 이용해 코로라바이러스 확진자가 발견된 지역을 여행 또는 방문하고 돌아온 가정은 코로라19 바이러스의 잠복기간인 14일 동안은 가급적 외출을 삼가하시고 집에서 최대한의 경계와 건강상태 점검하는 기간을 가지신 후에 등교해 주실 것을 권고합니다.
이와 함께, 코로라 19도 큰 문제이나 독감이 창궐하는 기간이오니 아직 독감주사를 맞지 않은 경우 의료기관 또는 인근의 플루백신 주사를 맞을 수 있는 곳에서 서둘러 주사를 맞도록 권고드립니다.
지금의 이 예상치 못한 상황이 걱정되지 않는 모든 개인과 각 나라는 없지 않을까 싶습니다.
저도 심히 걱정을 하며 이 상황을 지켜보고 있습니다. 불행 중 다행으로 매사추세츠 주는 아직까지 자진 신고하여 격리된 확진자 1명 이후 다른 사람이 확진자가 없다고 하니 다행이 아닐 수가 없습니다. 세계 여러 나라에서 코로나19 백신개발을 위해 총력을 다하고 있다고 하니 아무쪼록 문제가 곧 해결되기만을 바라는 마음입니다.
우리 뉴잉글랜드 한국학교는 현재까지 별다른 문제는 없다고 알고 있습니다.
학교에서도 보스턴 총영사관 홈페이지(http://overseas.mofa.go.kr/us-boston-ko/index.do)에 업데이트 되는 코로나19관련 공지사항을 주의깊게 살펴보고 있는 중이며,
미국 CDC와 학교가 위치한 Newton시의 지침에 따라학교 홈페이지 공지사항(http://ksneusa.org/ksne_notice/26252)을 올려 안내해 드렸습니다.
그리고, 각 학급은 가정통신문을 보내 만약 이번 winter break 기간에 확진자 발생 지역을 방문 또는 여행한 가정은 학교에 알려주시고 잠복기 14일까지는 외출을 삼가하며 가정에서 경과를 잘 관찰하고 학교를 빠져도 결석처리를 하지 않고 홈페이지 또는 이메일로 과제물을 보내서 대체하도록 안내하고 있습니다.
저와 선생님들은 지금의 예상치 못한 이 상황을 잘 살펴보고 그에 따른 후속처리를 할 예정입니다.
현재까지 뉴잉글랜드 한국학교는 별다른 상황이 없어서 이번 토요일에 학교는 정상적으로 오픈할 예정입니다.
이 상황이 빨리 종료되기를 바라는 마음은 누구나 같을 것이라고 믿습니다.
세계적으로 어려움에 처해 있는 이 상황이 빨리 종료될 수 있도록 기도하고 있습니다.

Dear parents & teachers:
Korean School of New England is actively monitoring information related to the Corona 19.
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports the risk of this disease in the United States to be low at this time, and there is one known case of the virus in Massachusetts.
We also monitor communications from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts public health officials, and will continue to follow their guidance.
The incubation period for the Coronavirus is two weeks. Students, teachers who have travelled to or from China, more than two weeks ago and are not ill have no cause for concern. So, who aren’t more than this period, recommends to stay in your home.
Also, we are in the midst of the flu virus season and Newton Public School staffs routinely disinfect touch-points - such as switch panels, faucets, doorknobs and handrails - throughout the school. Similarly, the Coronavirus is effectively treated with standard cleaning products.
We encourage students and all members of the Korean School of New England to continue to take the standard, recommended precautions to prevent the spread of flu-like illness:
- Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Frequently clean touch surfaces, including cell phones, laptops, and keyboards.
- Avoid sharing drinks, food utensils, containers, and other personal items.
- Students registering a fever or vomiting should stay home until conditions no longer persist for at least 24 hours.
In addition, it is not too late to receive this year's flu vaccine.
