Dear families of the Korean School of New England,
Did you have a great winter vacation? This Saturday is the first day of the spring semester.
The important events of the spring semester of 2018 are below.
Afterschool programs start as normal this week.
<1> Writing classes start for Beginner Levels 2 & 3!
* In the spring semester, Beginner Levels 2~4 will have the opportunity to take special writing classes (with instructors 이정설, 유미선, and 남선경)
- Beginner Level 2 Specialist: Teacher 이정설
- Beginner Level 3 Specialist: Teacher 유미선
- Beginner Level 4 Specialist: Teacher 남선경
* Writing classes are an opportunity for students to learn to organize their thoughts on various prompts and express themselves in paragraphs.
* Classes receiving instruction: Beginner Level 2 (토끼/Rabbit-거북이반/Tortoise Class) & Beginner level 3 (금도끼/Gold Axe-은도끼반/Silver Axe Class)
* Writing class signup: students will receive instruction depending on the homeroom teacher's recommendation starting on March 3. Classes will be scheduled during Period 1 or 2 in a designated classroom.
--> If a student will not participate in the writing class, please notify the homeroom teacher (who should then give a list of names to Teacher 이정설,
the head of the writing instructors.
--> Classes begin next week on March 3, so please try to register in time.
<2> Important events of the spring semester (February to April)
1) February 24: Start of spring semester and new student gathering
2) March 10: 2018 Korean SAT II Pilot Test (participation for 고구려반/Goguryeo Class and above)
3) March 31: 12th KSNE Writing Contest & Korean-English Translation Contest (only for classes receiving writing instruction and the Translation
Competition only for students in the Intermediate Level and above).
4) April 7: The New England Region Children's Writing Contest by NAKS-NE chapter
- We will provide information about the location soon
- Awarding: grand prize, gold to bronze awards, and participation awards
5) April 7: New England region preliminary contest for the 14th I Have a Dream Speaking Contest
- Eligible participants: date of birth should be January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2006.
- Final competition: of the 14 regional representatives, 6 will be invited to the NAKS event held in July in Chicago.
6) April 21: Spring Break - no school!
