New England Korean School’s Lee Ha Yoon (2018 Baekdu Class) Awarded the Grand Prize at the 14th “My Dreams” Speech Contest
New England Korean School’s (President Nam Il) Baekdu Class’s Lee Ha Yoon won the grand prize at the 14th “My Dreams” speech contest held on the last day of the 36th Annual Conference of the National Association for Korean Schools held in Chicago from July 19th to 21st.
Lee Ha-yoon received the U.S. Ambassador Award and was named the “My Dream” ambassador.
Only five representatives from 14 local councils affiliated with the National Association for Korean Schools were invited to the 14th contest, and the students who participated in the finals presented their dreams and thoughts in the presence of many teachers from all over the United States, the Overseas Koreans Foundation, Ministry of Education officials, and Korean Studies scholars from universities.
Lee Ha Yoon, who served as the representative of the Korean School of New England announced, "I will agonize every moment and through it, I will learn, act, and continue to grow. What matters is that you continue to voice your own words, and you hear other people’s voices. I do not think it necessarily has to be a big and ambitious thing. However, I want to become a global leader who keeps changing small and precious things one by one in the world." As she finished announcing her dreams and goals with a precise pronunciation and confident voice, she received thunderous ovation and cheers.
As for why she was able to speak a high level of Korean even as a second-generation Korean American, she said, "I think it is a result of studying Korean from a young age and speaking Korean to my family at home. I thank my New England Korean School teachers for their hard work and especially thank my parents."
